The Untranslatables

In an effort to familiarize English speakers with the eloquence and beauty of some Turkish words of various Middle Eastern origins, I set out to create a set of cards featuring words that have no direct translation to English. Each card features custom traditional water marbling (Ebru) and brush lettering on one side, the definition and etymology of the word on the other side. I’ve also created GIFs from a mix of found footage and clips I shot back home in Turkey.
